THUNDER BAY — There's a change in leadership at the Northwestern Ontario Innovation Centre.

CEO Judy Sander is retiring after 20 years, to be replaced by Kendall Williams as Executive Director.

In a statement Wednesday, the board said Sander has guided the centre through challenging times but also through times of significant growth.

"There is no doubt Judy's legacy will continue on... She has inspired the innovation eco-system and led the organization to deliver high quality business advisory services," board chair Eric Tribe said.

Williams previously held the position of Program Coordinator at the innovation centre.

The centre began In 1999 as the Northwestern Ontario Technology Centre, with the goal of supporting information technology start-ups.

Now located on the campus of Confederation College, its mandate has broadened to encourage job creation by supporting entrepreneurs in establishing or expanding businesses.
