SIOUX LOOKOUT – The Northwestern Health Unit announced two new cases of COVID-19 Tuesday, with one located in its Kenora region and one in its Dryden/Red Lake region.

Follow-up with the individuals, including contact tracing, is underway, with the health unit promising anyone identified as a contact will be contacted directly.

The health unit discloses only vague information on the locations of new cases, citing privacy concerns. Its regions include dozens of communities, with full lists available on its website.

According to NWHU data updated Tuesday, there were 24 confirmed active cases in its catchment area, which covers the most westerly portion of the province, including the Rainy River District and part of the Kenora District.

It was not certain whether that total included the two cases announced Tuesday.

Twenty people tested positive for the virus during the week of Nov. 16 to 22, of a total of 1,348 tests performed, representing a 1.48 per cent positivity rate.
