NWHU reporting eight new COVID-19 cases

The number of active cases has fallen to 45 in the catchment area.

DRYDEN, Ont. - The number of active COVID-19 cases in the Northwestern Health Unit catchment area has dropped significantly.

According to the Northwestern Health Unit, there were eight new cases of COVID-19 reported on Monday. On Sunday, the number of active cases was listed at 72 but it has since fallen to 45.

Of the new cases reported on Monday, five are in the Emo region, two in Sioux Lookout region, and one in the Kenora region.

“Follow up with the persons involved and their contacts has started according to protocol,” the NWHU said in a media release. “Anyone who is identified as a contact for these cases will be contacted directly.”

Of the cases still considered active, 14 are in the Emo region, 21 in the Sioux Lookout region, six in the Kenora region, and four in the Dryden region.

One person is currently in hospital. To date, there has been a total of 816 positive COVID-19 cases in the NWHU catchment area, with 771 listed as resolved and seven deaths.

A total of 19,859 vaccines have been administered so far and 25 per cent of the total population has received at least one dose.
