THUNDER BAY — Smoke alarms alerted the occupants of a north-side home that a fire had started in their house early Tuesday morning.
According to Thunder Bay Fire Rescue, firefighters who responded to a 911 call at 2 a.m. used aggressive suppression efforts to limit the damage to the home on Surrey Street in Current River.
The residence is not far from the Hodder Avenue fire station, so crews were on the scene quickly.
Six pumpers, an aerial ladder and a command vehicle attended the scene.
The fire is believed to have originated with candles that had been left burning in the porch, where the damage was confined.
