Occupants unhurt in a weekend residential fire

A weekend fire caused heavy damage to a north side home, but occupants safely fled the building.

THUNDER BAY — There was heavy damage in the kitchen, but fortunately no one was injured when fire broke out in a residential structure on Thunder Bay's north side Saturday evening.

Firefighters responded to an alarm from the 400 block of John Street, near High Street, about 7 p.m. 

They found a fire on the main floor.

A Thunder Bay Fire Rescue spokesperson says the occupants had already fled the building safely.

The fire department has not yet issued a report on what caused the blaze.
