The Port of Thunder Bay has recorded three strong consecutive months.
October saw more than 876,000 tons of cargo pass through the port, which is about 40 per cent higher than last October. Port Authority CEO Tim Heney said for the year so far, their cargo totals are up about 12 per cent compared to statistics from last year.
He attributes that success to a big increase in grain shipments, and said canola has also had an impact on the port's numbers this year.
He added that he's not expecting the trend to drop off anytime soon.
The port welcomed 44 vessels last month, compared to 34 in October of 2010.
Heney said 2011 is shaping up to be the strongest year for the port since 2008.
