Thunder Bay Police Service officers with the uniform patrol branch were dispatched to a parking lot in the 1000 block of Dawson road just before 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7 following a 911 call from a concerned citizen.

The 911 call indicated a male was possibly in medical distress and rolling around in the parking lot. When officers arrived they located a male matching the description given by the caller.

Officers determined the male was heavily intoxicated and were concerned for his wellbeing. Paramedics arrived on scene and suggested the male should be medically assessed. The male was agreeable and allowed the paramedics to examine him.

While paramedics were with the male he became increasingly combative and assaulted one of the police officers.

As a result the 23-year-old Thunder Bay man was charged with Assaulting a Peace Officer.

He was released with a promise to appear for a future court date.
