THUNDER BAY — An investigation against a Thunder Bay Police Service officer surrounding an alleged sexual assault has been concluded by the Special Investigations Unit.

The SIU was notified of the alleged sexual assault of a 31-year-old woman on Dec. 13, 2023, and invoked their mandate.

According to the SIU's report, the complainant said that while being arrested for possession of pills, her breasts were touched by an unknown TBPS officer on Feb. 2, 2021.

It was then in December 2023 that members of the TBPS Professional Standards Bureau received an Office of the Independent Police Review Director complaint from the woman.

After investigating, the SIU concluded there were "no reasonable grounds to believe that the officer committed a criminal offence in connection with the complaint of sexual assault."
