A Schreiber OPP officer has pleaded guilty to a pair of criminal charges following a series of incidents that occurred last year.

41-year-old Const. Gregory Sutton was arrested in March and charged with public mischief and intercepting private communications.

On Friday, the court heard that last December, Sutton placed several calls to Crimestoppers and also mailed an anonymous letter to a school board, claiming that a female teacher was having sexual relations with students, along with supplying them with drugs and alcohol.

Police quickly determined that the allegations were not true.

The investigation then turned to Sutton, an eight-year veteran of the OPP. Police say a private conversation was also illegally intercepted and recorded by Sutton.

After pleading guilty to the two charges Friday, lawyers for the Crown and the defense offered the judge a joint submission of a six-month sentence to be served in the community, along with one year probation.

The sentence will be handed down on Dec.15.
