Officer spots motorist smoking suspected crack cocaine, arrests three for drug trafficking

Police seize quantity of fentanyl, Oxycodone pills and suspected crack cocaine following an investigation Friday afternoon.

Three people were arrested on drug-trafficking charges after an officer spotted a motorist smoking apparent crack cocaine while in the driver's seat of their vehicle Friday.

The officer with the Thunder Bay Police Service’s Uniform Patrol Branch was on general patrol in the area of the 300 block of Frankwood Avenue just after 3:30 p.m. on Friday, May 28 when they observed a male in a motor vehicle smoking what appeared to be crack cocaine.

Upon further investigation the officer learned the motorist and two passengers were in possession of a quantity of suspected fentanyl, a quantity of suspected Oxycodone pills, a quantity of suspected crack cocaine, a quantity of cash, and paraphernalia consistent with drug trafficking.

A canister of pepper spray was also located inside the vehicle.

All three suspects were placed under arrest and transported to the Thunder Bay Police Service headquarters at 1200 Balmoral Street.

Susan Heather KELNER, 48, of Thunder Bay, is charged with:

• Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking
• Possession of Oxycodone for the Purpose of Trafficking
• Possession of Fentanyl for the Purpose of Trafficking
• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000

Christopher MANNING, 37, of Thunder Bay, is charged with:

• Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking
• Possession of Oxycodone for the Purpose of Trafficking
• Possession of Fentanyl for the Purpose of Trafficking
• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
• Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Weapon in a Motor Vehicle
• Carrying a Concealed Weapon
• Unauthorized Possession of Prohibited or Restricted Weapon

James Derek NASH, 40, of Kaministiquia, is charged with:

• Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking
• Possession of Oxycodone for the Purpose of Trafficking
• Possession of Fentanyl for the Purpose of Trafficking
• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000

All three appeared in bail court on Saturday, May 29 and were released with future appearance dates.
