Nine city police officers have received commendations for bravery.
The awards stem from a large fire that broke out on Oct. 22 at the Travelodge Hotel on Memorial Avenue.
Members of the Thunder Bay Police Service were the first to respond, and the officers were able to evacuate hotel rooms as smoke filled the hallways.
The officers re-entered the building as the fire worsened, crawling under smoke to locate and rescue five additional people.
