A trio of suspected drug dealers failed to flee from police after their vehicle ran into a thick spot of mud Wednesday.

Officials with the OPP say they received reports of a suspicious For Mustang in the Dryden and Ignace area.

Just before 2:30 p.m. an officer from the Thunder Bay detachment of the OPP spotted the vehicle on Highway 17, about 20 kilometres east of Upsala.

The officer followed the vehicle for about a kilometre when the driver pulled over onto the shoulder of the highway. As the officer was about to exit his vehicle, the driver sped off back down the highway.

The driver, being pursued by the officer, left the highway and drove north onto Dog River Road, west of Raith.

The vehicle was later discovered about 15 kilometres from the highway. Police say it appears the vehicle drove onto an old rail bed and became stuck in the mud.

Police searched the vehicle and found 68 grams of marijuana.

Allan Martinez, 30, of Winnipeg; Axl Rose Oracion-Sarmiento, 20 of Calgary; Leslie Cardinal, 31, of Calgary have all been arrested and charged with the following:

Fleeing from police
Possession for the purpose of trafficking

Martinez, believed to be the driver at the time of the incident, has also been charged with stunt driving and driving without a valid licence.

All suspects are being held in custody for a video court appearance.

The investigation leading up to and surrounding this incident continues.
