HAMILTON, Ont. - Michael Okafor saved his best for last in his Lakehead Thunderwolves debut.

The Toronto native, who in the summer of 2020 transferred to Lakehead after playing for the NCAA's Manhattan Jaspars, drained a game-winning three-pointer Friday night with one second left on the clock to earn the Wolves a season-opening 84-83 win over the McMaster Marauders.

Okafor finished with 20 points, second only to Laoui Msambya's 24, Lakehead battling back from nine points back after three quarters to pull out the one-point win.

The Thunderwolves out-scored McMaster 51-37 in the second half.

Jordan Henry led all scorers with 28, but came up short on a potential game-winning buzzer beater for McMaster as time ran out.

Lakehead and McMaster will tip off again on Saturday.
