Mixed emotions are surfacing as members of the community get ready to say goodbye to the old Mary J.L. Black Library on Brock Street. The facility is set to close its doors for the last time in a couple of weeks, to make way for the new state-of-the-art facility on Edward Street.
The facility will be shutting its doors on April 29 for the last time. And although it is bittersweet for some, others are getting excited to move into the new and improved library on Edward street. Acting Chief Librarian Barbara Philp said she can't for the doors to open on May 9. The move has been smooth she said.
Jill Otto has worked at the Mary J.L. Black Library since she was just 18 years old. It was her first job and while she says she is excited to move into the new facility she admitted it will be hard to say goodbye.
The new library will house a new state of the art computer room and improved handicap accessibility. Philp said there will be a seven to 10 day period when both locations will not be available to the public due to the move. But she believes the public won't mind once they see the new facility for the first time.
A farewell day has been planned for members of the community to say their final good-byes to the old library April 19 from 1 to 8 p.m. A grand opening for the new facility will be held mid-June.
