THUNDER BAY -- The historic Camelot Street courthouse in Thunder Bay has been sold.

An Ontario government spokesperson says an agreement of purchase and sale has been reached, and the transaction is expected to close next month.

The former Superior Court of Justice building was built in the early 1920s and closed in 2014 following the opening of the new consolidated courthouse on Brodie Street.

Details won't be released until the deal is finalized, but sources tell tbnewswatch.com the purchaser is from southern Ontario.

The building had been listed for a price of $570,000.

Although the structure is not designated as a heritage property by the City of Thunder Bay, its provincial heritage designation protects several areas of the building including the exterior, the main hallway and the two-storey main courtroom.

The former Ontario Court of Justice building on Arthur Street remains on the market.
