OLG, union reach tentative deal to avoid lockout

THUNDER BAY – A tentative deal has been reached in hopes of preventing a lockout at the city’s casino.

THUNDER BAY – A tentative deal has been reached in hopes of preventing a lockout at the city’s casino.

United Steelworkers union business representative Bruce Frost on Tuesday said the employees and the OLG had spent much of the previous day working with a mediator and had reached a settlement.

The workers are scheduled to vote on the tentative agreement on Thursday, which Frost said the union is recommending they support.
If the deal is not approved there could be a lockout as early as Saturday.

Workers at the casino voted in November 2013 to join the steelworkers union and were negotiating their first collective bargaining agreement.

There are about 180 employees that would be affected.
