One man in custody following an early morning garage fire

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

THUNDER BAY – One man is in custody after firefighters responded to a garage fire on Simpson Street early Saturday morning.

Thunder Bay Fire Fighters responded to a structure fire involving a garage around 2 a.m. in the 800 block of Simpson Street.

On arrival, crews encountered a structure that was heavily involved in flame and smoke, with flames threatening to spread to adjacent structures.

Fire officials say one occupant has been inside the garage at the time of the fire, but he was located outside the structure when they arrived on scene, with Thunder Bay Police Service taking the male into custody.

Fire crews began an attack on the garage, while additional and second alarm crews supported the fire attack.

The fire was contained to the garage.

The garage and contents were completely destroyed by fire.

The lone occupant of the garage fire reported no injuries, however, he was transported by SNEMS paramedics to Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for a medical follow-up.

The scene has been cordoned off and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

The address also experienced a house fire just weeks prior to this incident.
