THUNDER BAY — A man has been charged with aggravated assault in an incident that sent one person to hospital on Thursday.

City police officers responded to a call for service to High Street South shortly after noon, where they received a report that there was an injured man who may have been the victim of an assault, according to a media release issued Friday by the Thunder Bay Police Service.

The injured man was transported to the hospital by paramedics and remains there for treatment, said police.

A half-block section of High Street, starting about halfway between Hester Street and Inchiquin Street south to Inchiquin remained closed for several hours Thursday while police, including the major crimes unit, conducted an investigation in the area.

Officers located a suspect, 47-year-old Burkley David Blake, nearby on Thursday and he was taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault, said police.

Blake appeared in court Friday and has been released from custody with conditions and a future appearance date.
