One man taken to hospital following Highway 17 collision

Police responded to a motor vehicle collision Wednesday afternoon.

MARATHON, Ont. – Paramedics rushed one man to the hospital Wednesday afternoon following a motor vehicle collision.

Ontario Provincial Police responded to a report of a collision at 5 p.m. on Highway 17 about 40 kilometres west of Marathon near Ripple Lake.

Police say a westbound motor vehicle had crossed the centerline colliding with an eastbound tractor-trailer unit.

The driver of the car was unable to exit the vehicle and had to be extracted by the Terrace Bay Fire Department. He was transported to a local hospital by emergency medical services and was treated for minor injuries.

The driver of the tractor-trailer unit was uninjured in the collision.

The highway was closed for about an hour and then opened to one lane until the motor vehicles were removed and clean up was completed.

The investigation is ongoing.
