THUNDER BAY -- The active COVID-19 case count has grown by 10 on Monday in Thunder Bay, with the addition of 51 new cases to the district's count. There has also been one more death, bringing the total in the city and district to 38 since the pandemic began.
The Thunder Bay District Health Unit also announced nine more cases have been confirmed at The Walford, a north-side retirement complex, bringing the total number of cases announced there to 30, since the first four cases were confirmed last Wednesday.
Of the new cases, 14 are considered the result of household contact, 10 are considered to be other close contact, while the exposure case in 13 cases remains pending and five were confirmed of unknown origin.
Forty-one cases are now considered resolved.
There have been a record 778 cases confirmed in March, 137 more than were recorded in February and nearly 200 more than in all of 2020, when 585 cases were recorded.
Forty-nine of the cases reside in Thunder Bay, with one coming from a district community and one from a First Nation's community.
There have been 2,290 case announced since the first one was revealed locally last March 27, with 1,906 considered resolved. There are currently 446 active cases, the most since there were 458 last Tuesday.
WalMart has announced three new cases, two at its Arthur Street West location and one at its Memorial Avenue store. There have been 20 cases associated with the city's three WalMart locations since March began.
