THUNDER BAY — The Thunder Bay District Health Unit is reporting another death related to COVID-19 at the Southbridge Roseview long-term care home.
A resident of the Shuniah Street facility has passed away after contracting the virus.
This is the 17th fatality connected to the outbreak at the 157-bed nursing home, all involving residents of the facility.
A total of 19 people have succumbed to the virus across the district so far during the pandemic.
THE TBDHU also reported one new COVID-19 case in the City of Thunder Bay or immediate surrounding area today.
It said the person involved – a female under the age of 20 – was a close contact of a previously-infected individual.
Nine previously-diagnosed cases have now been resolved.
That means the number of current active cases in its coverage area has fallen to 75.
At Southbridge Roseview, there are still 22 active cases involving residents, and seven involving staff.
In the TBDHU's catchment area, no one is currently receiving treatment in area hospitals for COVID-19.
Across Ontario, however, the worrisome rise in cases continues.
The province on Wednesday reported a new record daily total of 2,923.
