THUNDER BAY -- A person was taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation following an apartment fire in the 100 block of Stardust Crescent.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue say they arrived on scene at about 1 a.m. on Sunday to find smoke pouring from a third-floor unit. Forcing their way into the unit, they found the victim wandering around disoriented and handed him off to paramedics for treatment. He was later taken to Thunder Bay Regional for observation.

Firefighters confined the fire to a mattress and then ventilated both the apartment and the building, issuing a warning about properly discarding smoking materials.

No one else was hurt in the fire and no other residents were displaced as a result.
