THUNDER BAY — Two separate incidents occurred over the weekend that involved alleged drunk drivers.
The first happened on Saturday around 9:45 p.m. when police were sent to Vickers Street North after receiving reports of a single-vehicle collision.
It appeared that a vehicle had struck a light post and drove away but left the scene without the car's front license plate.
Officers went to the address of the registered plate and found a heavily damaged vehicle with a matching rear plate.
A 35-year-old was charged with impaired driving along with multiple other related offences. The individual was released with a court date in the future.
Police attended a second incident only a few hours later on Sunday morning around 2 a.m. when they attended a call for service on Golf Links Road.
A vehicle was heading south on Golf Links Road when it crossed over into oncoming traffic, drove across the sidewalk and into the ditch, eventually colliding with two trees and a building.
The incident resulted in damage to the vehicle and building. As a result, Thunder Bay Paediatrics has had to close while repairs are being completed.
The collision caused damage to the outer brickwork and a window frame.
Interior walls were also damaged, including an office and storage space. The clinic is expected to reopen for clients on Thursday morning.
The driver was transported to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for treatment of injuries.
An 18-year-old driver was charged with impaired driving and was later released with a future court date.
