THUNDER BAY -- Ontarians 80 and older will be able to register for a vaccination appointment starting on March 15.
Retired Gen. Rick Hillier, who is handling the vaccine roll-out for the province, on Wednesday provided timelines for various age groups to get their vaccines.
Those 80 and older will start being vaccinated on March 22.
Starting the week of April 15, those 75 and older can register for a vaccination. On May 1 the threshold will drop to 70 and older, while anyone 65 and older can register for one on June 1. Finally, for now, anyone 60 and older will be permitted to register to receive a vaccine starting in the first week of July.
Essential workers will join the queue beginning on May 1.
At present long-term care residents and staff are being vaccinated, with health-care workers and other front-line workers expected to be asked to get a vaccine next.
Locally, the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre this week opened a vaccine clinic at Lakehead University, with a capacity of being able to vaccinate up to 500 people per day.
