Winter is coming, but a city official says construction crews should be able to re-open Golf Links Road by Nov. 18.

City project engineer Rick Harms on Thursday said the multi-million dollar project is on schedule and though the road surface will need finishing work in the spring.

“We’re looking at about another three weeks of construction,” Harms said. “We’re targeting Nov. 18 as a date for the reopening of the road between Central Avenue and Oliver Road.

“At this point the majority of the concrete work is done. The walls on the golf course side are done. They’re working on some ditching and we do expect some base-level paving to start later this week.

The plan is to open with fully marked base-level paving for the winter.

“It is pretty much right on schedule. When we started in the spring we did anticipate this very large project would carry over into November,” Harms said.

The base-level paving will be fine for motorists, he added.

The next phase of the project, the widening of Golf Links Road between Oliver Road and John Street, is planned for next year’s construction season.
