OPP assisting Lac Seul death investigation

OPP are assisting Lac Seul Police Service in a sudden death investigation on Jan. 2.

LAC SEUL FIRST NATION, Ont. – Ontario Provincial Police are assisting Lac Seul Police Service in the investigation into the death of Michael Sawanas.

On Jan. 2, Lac Seul police requested the assistance of the OPP into a sudden death that occurred at a residence on Lac Seul First Nation.

The deceased has been identified as 35-year-old Michael Sawanas, of Sandy Lake First Nation.


Officers of the Sioux Lookout OPP, in conjunction with the OPP North West Region Crime Unit under the direction of acting detective inspector Karl Duewel OPP Criminal Investigation Branch are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.

Police say there is no public safety concerns at this time.
