THUNDER BAY – The provincial police are upset with the region’s response after posting a poll on Twitter about drinking and driving.

On Monday, the OPP's Northwest Region posted an informal and unscientific poll on Twitter asking its followers whether they would drive while under the influence of either drugs or alcohol.

Police were surprised with the results as six per cent of participants admitted they would drive under the influence of either drugs or alcohol if they were only driving a short distance.

Another three per cent said they would drive intoxicated if they had no other alternative and at least one person agreed that they would drive under the influence only on a quiet road.

About 74 Twitter users said they would never drive under the influence.

While the poll only featured only a small number of Twitter users, officials with the OPP said they were disappointed with the responses.

On Tuesday, the police responded with a tweet stating “it would have been much better to see 100 per cent of people responding with ‘never.’”

OPP want to remind people drinking, doing drugs and driving is “a recipe for disaster.”
