OPP divers recover body of Wabaseemoong First Nation man

KENORA, Ont. — Ontario Provincial Police on the weekend recovered the body of a Wabaseemoong First Nation man who died after the vehicle he was in went through the ice on an area water body on Dec. 26.

Police identified the victim as 44-year-old Chad McDonald.

Members of the OPP's Underwater Search and Recovery Unit recovered his remains. 

A post-mortem was to be held at Lake of the Woods Hospital in Kenora on Monday.

OPP said two vehicles went through the ice around the same time, but all the other occupants were able to escape.

Police didn't specify the precise location, but said the incident happened on the English River system in the area of Wabaseemoong First Nation territory.
