(MARATHON, ON) – On September 26, 2016 at approximately 12:49am Marathon Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was contacted regarding a missing 67-year–old man from Marathon identified as Greg WITZELL.

The man had left his hunt camp, located 20 kms up the North Regan Road the afternoon of September 25, 2016 on his ATV and had not returned to camp. When the weather became damp and windy, friends he was hunting with began a search.

The search party located the ATV on a trail but there was no sign of the missing hunter.

Officers with the Manitouwadge/Marathon OPP were contacted and immediately attended the area. Due to the weather conditions and the age of the male, members of the North West Region OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) and K-9 have been deployed as well.

At approximately 1:30pm ERT members, with the assistance of Marathon Fire Department Search and Rescue members located WITZELL.

He appeared to be in good health, but was subsequently transported from the scene by Emergency Medical Services for assessment.
