OPP honours civilian contribution this week

The civilian contribution to the Ontario Provincial Police is being recognized this week at the local OPP communications centre.

The civilian contribution to the Ontario Provincial Police is being recognized this week at the local OPP communications centre.

The police force is celebrating National Public Safety Communicators Week, and on Tuesday staff cooked a breakfast for the civilians who work within the communications centre on Algoma Street.

About 42 people provide vital services on every call and are essential to keeping everyone involved in the calls safe and informed.

Prior to the breakfast, some words of appreciation were given to the workers on hand.

And their track record shows just how important their efforts are. Last year alone the local communications Centre staff answered more than 100,000 calls for service from around the Northwest Region.
