OPP investigate break and enter on Rainy Lake

Police are investigating a break and enter that occurred on Sunday.

RAINY RIVER DISTRICT, Ont. – OPP are asking for the public’s assistance as they investigate a break and enter on Rainy Lake.

According to an Ontario Provincial Police release, police received a complaint on July 5 of a break and enter that occurred in Red Gut Bay on Rainy Lake.

The marine unit attended the scene and learned that the suspect had forced entry into a cabin located on the property.

Upon further investigation, it was determined that a firearm, along with other items including a generator, solar equipment, Dewalt tools and a Yeti cooler were stolen from the property.

Police have recovered the firearm and a number of items believed to be stolen.

Officers continue to investigate the incident with assistance from the Rainy River District Crime Unit, Northwest Region Emergency Response Team and Forensic Identification Unit.

The OPP is requesting anyone with information about this occurrence contact the Rainy River District Detachment at 807-274-3322 or 1-888-310-1122. Should you wish to remain anonymous, you may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.

The OPP suggests that anyone with a seasonal property in the Rainy River District make efforts to have it checked on and report any suspicious activity.
