SANDY LAKE – Ontario Provincial Police have made an arrest following a death in Sandy Lake.

On May 6, Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service responded to a call regarding a male in need of assistance outside a residence on River Road in Sandy Lake.

Officers responded and located 49-year-old Wilfred Fiddler from Sandy Lake First Nation in the ditch. He was transported by police to the Sandy Lake Nursing Station and was later pronounced dead.

A post-mortem examination has been scheduled to take place in Kenora on Monday.

Police arrested a 24-year-old man from Sandy Lake First Nation with aggravated assault.

He is being held in custody for a bail hearing in Kenora on May 8.

Police are continuing the investigation.
