OPP investigate fatal ATV collision

OPP are investigating a fatal collision involving an ATV east of Little Sturge Lake that claimed the life of a 33-year-old Marathon man.

NIPIGON, Ont. - One man is dead following a collision between an all-terrain vehicle and a motor vehicle near Black Sturgeon Road.

According to an Ontario Provincial Police media release, officers with the Nipigon detachment responded to reports of a collision involving an ATV on May 20 at approximately 6:20 p.m. on a bush road east of Little Sturge Lake off Black Sturgeon Road.  

Following an investigation, OPP determined the driver of the ATV was travelling on the bush road and encountered a motor vehicle on a corner. The driver of the ATV lost control and left the roadway, causing the vehicle to roll.

Officers and North Emergency Medical Services attended the location where the driver of the ATV was found unresponsive. The 33-year-old driver of Marathon was transported to Nipigon Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.  

According to OPP, there was no evidence of impairment and the driver of the ATV was wearing all required safety equipment. The investigation is ongoing.
