OPP investigate fatal collision near Hearst

A 19-year-old man from Schumacher, Ont. was pronounced dead following a collision involving a passenger vehicle and a transport truck.

HEARST, Ont. - One person is dead following a motor vehicle collision on Highway 11 near Heast, Ont. over the weekend.

According to an Ontario Provincial Police media release, emergency crews responded to reports of a collision on Sunday just after 9:30 a.m. on Highway 11 east of the village of Mattice, Ont.

It was determined a west bound transport truck collided with an east bound passenger vehicle. The driver of the passenger vehicle, 19-year-old Shawn Grondin of Schumacher, Ont., was pronounced dead. There were no other injuries reported.

The highway between Hearst and Kapuskasing was closed for several hours as police conducted an investigation.

A post mortem examination has been scheduled for June 19. The investigation is ongoing.
