The provincial police are continuing to investigate what they now consider to be the homicide of a 15-year-old girl in Manitouwadge 25 years after her death.

OPP Const. Diana Cole said investigators are still probing the death of Catherine Gowan, who was found dead in a Adjala Avenue residence in Manitouwadge on July 8, 1990, with her exhumed on Monday.

“Catherine Gowan’s body is being flown to Toronto to the forensic pathology service in order for a second autopsy to be concluded and to collect evidence,” she said.

The family supported the exhumation, Cole added.

The OPP in May announced the case was being reopened as a homicide investigation as a result of new information surfacing. It had previously been considered a non-criminal death.

However, Cole did not provide details on what led to the renewed investigation or what investigators have learned in the past five months, including if there are any leads or suspects.

Cole said officers will likely be interviewing people who have already spoken with officers.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the OPP.
