OPP officer finds $30,000 during traffic stop

Police located nearly $30,000 in cash after stopping a speeding driver near Marathon who had outstanding warrants. An officers with the Marathon detachment of the OPP made the traffic stop on Highway 17 Sunday.

Police located nearly $30,000 in cash after stopping a speeding driver near Marathon who had outstanding warrants.

An officers with the Marathon detachment of the OPP made the traffic stop on Highway 17 Sunday.

During the traffic stop, the officer learned that the driver had outstanding warrants from southern Ontario.

The man was arrested and the vehicle he was driving was searched.

Police found $30,000 in Canadian cash in his vehicle.

The officers interviewed two male occupants who were in the vehicle about the money, but neither could offer information on how it was obtained.

The money was seized pending further investigation.

The driver, who resides in Bear River, NS, was charged with speeding and driving while suspended.

The passengers were released without condition.
