OPP RIDE program in Marathon catches impaired driver

MARATHON, Ont. - A Pic Mobert First Nation man is facing several charges after being stopped by a RIDE program along the north shore.

Ontario Provincial Police in Marathon conducted a RIDE program on Pic Mobert Road early Sunday morning.

A driver entered the program just after 1 a.m. and was suspected of driving under the influence. The driver failed a roadside screening test and was placed under arrest.

After being transported to the Marathon OPP detachment, he supplied two more breath samples that confirmed his intoxication by alcohol.

The driver, a 38-year-old man from Pic Mobert First Nation, was charged with operating a conveyance while impaired with over 80 mgs of alcohol in 100ml of blood and adult fail to comply with conditions of undertaking.

The driver was released on a promise to appear in court in Marathon on Feb. 21.

OPP are reminding the public that driving under the influence is extremely dangerous and drivers can subject to licence suspensions, fines, vehicle impoundments, criminal records, and increased insurance costs.

The public is encouraged to call 911 or contact the OPP at 1-800-310-1122 whenever suspecting that a driver is impaired.
