OPP seize $1.6 M in illegal tobacco near Dryden

Nearly 400 cases of cigarettes were found in two vehicles.

DRYDEN, Ont. — Four people have been arrested in connection with the seizure of a huge quantity of illegal tobacco near Dryden.

Ontario Provincial Police discovered 386 cases of cigarettes in two vehicles during traffic stops Sunday on Highway 17 in Southworth Township, east of the community.

Police estimate the street value of the tobacco at $1,600,000.

Three residents of Winnipeg and a person from Brampton, Ontario are all charged with trafficking in contraband tobacco.

They were released from custody on a promise to appear in court in September.
