OPP seize cocaine following a motor vehicle collision

NIPIGON, Ont. – A pair of Toronto residents are facing drug trafficking charges following a single vehicle collision on Highway 17.

Ontario Provincial Police responded to a report of a collision on Saturday around 10 a.m. on Highway 17 east of Terrace Bay.

As a result of the investigation, police say they found the female operator of the vehicle to be a suspended driver.

Police observed improperly stored marijuana which was readily available to the driver.

Police searched the vehicle and occupants and located about 440 grams of cocaine and a large knife.

Further investigation determined the male passenger had provided police with a false name.

As a result, Magdalene Porras, 24, from Toronto was charged with possession of a schedule I substance - cocaine - for the purpose of trafficking and driving while under suspension.

Also, a 16-year-old male of Toronto who cannot be identified as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was charged with possession of a schedule I substance - cocaine - for the purpose of trafficking, obstructing a peace officer and possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose.

Both were held for a video bail hearing on Sunday, May 19 at which time they were remanded into custody.
