OPP seize contraband cigarettes near Dryden

DRYDEN, ON — Ontario Provincial Police have arrested two men after finding a large quantity of illegal tobacco in their vehicle.

The discovery was made when officers from the Dryden detachment conducted a traffic stop on February 1 on Highway 17 in Eton Township, west of the city.

Police confiscated 27 cases of cigarettes with an estimated value of $81,000.

Two residents of the Edmonton area will appear in court in March on charges of trafficking in contraband tobacco and possession of unmarked cigarettes for the purpose of sale.

The charges were laid under the Criminal Code of Canada and under the Tobacco Tax Act.
