OPP seize illegal tobacco following highway traffic stop

OPP News Release (KENORA, ON) – On Friday September 18, 2015 at around 2:00 pm members of the Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on Highway 17 near Moth Lake.

(KENORA, ON) – On Friday September 18, 2015 at around 2:00 pm members of the Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on Highway 17 near Moth Lake. 

When dealing with the driver of the vehicle, police determined the male driver was transporting a quantity of unmarked cigarettes. A search of the vehicle located just under 80,000 cigarettes and a small amount of marihuana. The tobacco’s estimated street value is nearly $24,000.

The driver of the vehicle, Randolph MCCUE age 54 of Papineau-Cameron Township, Ontario is charged with Trafficking in Contraband Tobacco contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada, Possession of a Schedule II Substance-Cannabis Marihuana under 30 grams contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

Further charges under the Tobacco Taxes Act and the Excise Act are pending.

He is to appear in Kenora Court on December 3, 2015 answer to the charges.
