THUNDER BAY -- A second one-day school strike will go ahead as planned on Wednesday after teachers and education workers could not reach a deal with the province.

All Lakehead Public and Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board schools will be closed as a result.

The mediator appointed to settle the contract dispute has called off the talks and, according to multiple reports, both sides will enter a two-day media blackout ahead of Wednesday's job action.

Teachers and education workers in Thunder Bay walked off the job on Dec. 4. Select boards in Ontario also walked out on Dec. 11.
