THUNDER BAY – The city’s three public high schools will be closed on Tuesday should a deal not be reached with the province in the interim.

The Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation on Thursday announced its intention to hold another one-day strike a number of schools across the province, including those under the Lakehead Public Schools banner.

Teachers and education workers at both the Lakehead Public Schools and the Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board will be on the picket line. The Ontario English Catholic Teachers' Association has already announced a one-day, province-wide strike for Tuesday.

The union says its members are fighting to maintain smaller class sizes and supports for special needs students, while also seeking a wage increase tied to inflation.

Affected boards include:

  • Lakehead District School Board
  • Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board
  • Lambton Kent District School Board
  • Thames Valley District School Board
  • Waterloo Region District School Board
  • Waterloo Catholic District School Board
  • York Region District School Board
  • York Catholic District School Board
  • Halton District School Board
  • Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board
