THUNDER BAY — Local residents who flocked to recreational trails over the weekend had good reason to do so.
Environment Canada says Thunder Bay recorded a temperature of 9.1 C on Saturday, 12 degrees warmer than normal for this time of year.
It was the second warmest Feb. 22 on record, being surpassed only by the 9.7 C temperature that was reached in 1984.
Sunday was also much milder than usual, with the thermometer reaching 6.3 C at Thunder Bay Airport.
Meteorologist Gerald Cheng says conditions will return to a more normal pattern Tuesday through Saturday this week.
Daytime highs are expected to range between -3 C and -8 C, while overnight lows will fall between -18 C and minus -11 C.
However, Cheng said that at this point, it appears temperatures will climb just over the freezing point by Sunday.
