GERALDTON, Ont. -- A COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at the John Owen Evans Residence in Geraldton, Ont.

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit on Friday announced the outbreak at the long-term care facility, saying a single staff member was recently confirmed to be COVID-19 positive.

A single positive case is enough to declare an outbreak to ensure that emergency management measures, including increased infection and control, are put into place swiftly to prevent any further spread.

The health unit said at this time there is no evidence of further spread, but enhanced surveillance and testing activities and an on-site inspection will take place.

Further measures will also be implemented at the 26-bed facility.
