THUNDER BAY -- A single staff member testing positive for COVID-19 has led to an outbreak being declared at a local long-term care facility.

The Thunder Bay District Health said the case is associated with the BIrch/Spruce Grove resident home area at Hogarth Riverview Manor.

Under provincial regulations, one positive case is all it takes to declare an outbreak, ensuring that the necessary measure to contain any potential spread. Enhance testing will be put in place.

The health unit release said the facility did participate in the initial roll-out of the COVID-19 vaccination program.

At the same time, the health unit declared an outbreak on the third floor at Bethammi Nursing Home is over.
