Outdoor rink season winding down

Remaining open rinks set to close after March Break, weather permitting

THUNDER BAY – The city’s outdoor rinks are closing for the season, but workers are trying to keep as many open as possible through March Break.

Those that remain open will close for the summer next Saturday. Change facilities at the supervised rinks be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m..

“Parks staff did a great job building and maintaining our outdoor rinks this year,” said the city’s parks and open spaces manager Cory Halvorsen in a release issued by the city on Friday. 

“Outdoor skating is a great way to stay active in the winter months and I hope residents were able to get out and enjoy Thunder Bay’s many outdoor skating rinks. We look forward to another great outdoor skating season next winter.”

Weather permitting, the outdoor rink at Prince Arthur’s Landing will open between 11:30 a.m. and 9 p.m. throughout March Break.

There will also be several free indoor skates offered to the public over the next week, including Monday and Wednesday from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Fort William Gardens and Port Arthur Arena, and Friday from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Current River Arena.
