Paid parking, transit fares return on Monday

City says vehicles at expired meters will be ticketed beginning next week.

THUNDER BAY – Motorist will have to get back in the habit of carrying change around if they want to park on many city streets.

The Thunder Bay Parking Authority plans to reinstate payments at all meters in the city starting on Monday.

Vehicles with expired meters will be ticketed and all other parking regulations will continue to remain in effect and being enforced. At presents drivers can park at meters for two hours without paying. 

The move comes the same day Thunder Bay Transit plans to bring back paid fares on city buses. The transit authority on Thursday also announced its Fort William Road office is now open to the public, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Transit passes are available at 28 different locations across town, and at city hall by scheduled appointment.

Transit users are asked to practice physical distancing on board where possible and recommends wearing face coverings at bus stops and while riding.
