The Thunder Bay Police Service has arrested and charged two suspects connected to a recent taxi cab robbery.

Thunder Bay Police Service officers with the Uniform Patrol Branch were originally dispatched to the corner of Cumberland and Clavet Streets at about 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 8 following reports of a robbery that had just occurred.

Police learned the driver had picked up two men from Donato’s Bakery at 161 Court Street South around 3:15 a.m.

The two suspects requested the driver bring them to the corner of Court and Clavet Streets. Once the cab arrived the male suspect in the front passenger seat demanded money from the driver before assaulting him. The second male in the backseat of the cab also demanded money from the driver.

The pair then fled on foot.

Police acquired video surveillance showing the suspects around the time of the incident and released a brief clip from that footage in hopes the public could assist in identifying the suspects.

As a result of an ongoing investigation by the service’s Community Response Team, police identified two suspects. Those suspects were arrested on Sunday, Oct. 20.

Owen Derreck KENNEDY, 35, and Sever Cyril STORKSON, 26, both of Thunder Bay, are charged with Robbery with a Weapon.

They appeared in court Monday and were remanded into custody with a future appearance date.
