PIGEON RIVER, Ont. -- Trying to deceive an inspector at a border crossing could be a costly affair.
That’s what two people driving a motorhome through the Pigeon River border crossing learned in April.
Information provided by customs investigators state the two had claimed only $100 in purchases after being away from the country for four months.
A search of the motorhome turned up more than $10,000 worth of undeclared jewellery and other goods.
The penalty for the false claim will cost the pair more than $9,000 in fines.
The customs investigation also states that criminal charges against the couple are still possible.
